Description
🧴 Tween-20 (Polysorbate 20) — non-ionic surfactant and wetting agent for surface sterilisation protocols. Reduces surface tension so bleach or HgCl₂ can penetrate hairy/waxy explant surfaces.

💧 How to use
| Use | Concentration | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| NaOCl surface sterilisation | 1–5 drops/100 mL (≈0.01–0.05% v/v) | Add just before use |
| Agrobacterium inoculation solution | 0.01–0.02% v/v | Helps bacteria contact explant |
| Wax/trichome-covered surfaces | 0.05–0.1% v/v | Pre-rinse with Tween then sterilise |
💡 Tween-20 vs Tween-80: both work for surface sterilisation — Tween-20 (laurate ester) has slightly better wetting on hydrophobic surfaces. Use Tween-80 when your protocol specifically calls for it.
⚠️ Do NOT add Tween to the culture medium itself — concentrations >0.1% cause membrane damage and growth inhibition in plant cells.
