Description
🌿 Paclobutrazol — a triazole gibberellin biosynthesis inhibitor; used to produce compact, sturdy shoots in TC and to manipulate gibberellin levels in developmental studies.
| 🧪 CAS | 76738-62-0 | ⚖️ MW | 293.80 g/mol |
| 🔬 Grade | TC / Research | 🌡️ Storage | RT, dark; stock 4 °C |
⚗️ Mechanism
Paclobutrazol inhibits ent-kaurene oxidase, a cytochrome P450 enzyme in the gibberellin biosynthesis pathway — blocking the conversion of ent-kaurene to GA₁₂ and drastically reducing endogenous GA levels. The result: shortened internodes, thickened stems, darker leaves. Used in TC to produce compact, robust plantlets less prone to lodging on deflasking.
🌿 Working concentrations
| Use | Concentration | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Compact shoot production | 0.1–5 mg/L | Reduce elongation before deflasking |
| Stock plant treatment (drenching) | 5–100 mg/L | Pre-harvest shoot conditioning |
| Fruit tree size control studies | 0.5–10 mg/L | Dose-response |
| GA₃ counterpart experiments | Equimolar to GA₃ | Competes with GA₃ |
💡 Paclobutrazol effects are reversible with exogenous GA₃ application — useful for controlled gibberellin response studies.
