Description
𧫠Linsmaier & Skoog (LS) Medium β a 1965 simplification of MS that removes most organic supplements; retains only thiamine and inositol. Often preferred for clean studies where organic supplements might confound results.

π‘ LS vs MS β what was removed and why
Linsmaier & Skoog demonstrated that of all the MS organic supplements (thiamine, pyridoxine, nicotinic acid, glycine, inositol), only thiamine and inositol are truly essential for tobacco growth. The simplified LS formula reduces chemical complexity and is preferred in transformation experiments and metabolomics studies where background organics interfere.
π‘ If your culture works fine on MS but you want a cleaner biochemical baseline for an experiment, switch to LS β same salts, fewer organics.
