๐ก Glycine in the MS vitamins mix
Murashige & Skoog medium includes glycine at 2 mg/L as part of the organic supplement. Glycine contributes to: purine biosynthesis (glycine is directly incorporated into the purine ring), glutathione synthesis (antioxidant tripeptide), and one-carbon metabolism via serine hydroxymethyltransferase. While plants can synthesise glycine, exogenous supplementation supports rapidly dividing callus cells where demand exceeds endogenous synthesis.
๐ฌ Standard inclusion
MS standard: 2 mg/L glycine. Some protocols use 5โ10 mg/L for high-density suspension culture. Glycine is heat-stable โ can be autoclaved with the medium (unlike glutamine or ascorbic acid).
