Description
🌺 Anderson’s Rhododendron Medium — designed by W.C. Anderson specifically for Rhododendron, Azalea, and acid-loving Ericaceae that fail on standard MS.
| 📦 Format | Powder → 1 L | 🔬 Grade | TC / Tissue Culture |
| ⚗️ Working pH | 4.5–5.0 | 🌡️ Storage | 2–8 °C, sealed |
💡 Why Ericaceae need a different medium
Rhododendrons are calcifuge (calcium-hating) ericoid plants adapted to acidic, low-nutrient soils. Standard MS is far too high in calcium, phosphate, and pH. Anderson’s medium uses lower calcium, elevated ammonium:nitrate ratio, and is buffered to pH 4.5–5.0 — matching the natural rhizosphere of these plants.
🌺 Application
| Use | Concentration | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Rhododendron shoot multiplication | Anderson’s + 5–10 µM BAP | 2–3 shoots per explant/cycle |
| Azalea micropropagation | Anderson’s + 5 µM zeatin | Lower browning than BAP |
| Blueberry (Vaccinium) Stage I–II | Anderson’s + 5 µM 2-iP | Industry standard |
| Calluna / Erica | Anderson’s, no hormones initial | Minimise callus base |
