Description
🌿 2-Isopentenyl Adenine (2-iP) — an intermediate-activity natural cytokinin; preferred for apple, pear, and some rose micropropagation where BAP causes fasciation or rosetting.

⚗️ Activity profile
2-iP has roughly intermediate activity between kinetin and zeatin. It is naturally occurring (found in tRNA and some bacteria) and is processed by plants to trans-zeatin — making it a natural cytokinin precursor. This gives a smoother, more sustained cytokinin effect than exogenous zeatin.
🍎 Working concentrations
| Use | Concentration | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Apple (Malus) shoot multiplication | 5–20 µM (≈1–4 mg/L) | WPM base |
| Pear micropropagation | 5–15 µM | Reduces fasciation vs BAP |
| Rose shoot proliferation | 5–20 µM | MS or WPM |
| Blueberry (Anderson’s medium alt) | 5–10 µM | Some protocols prefer over 2-iP |
| Woody ornamentals | 5–25 µM | Species-specific optimisation |
