White’s Basal Medium — 1L

Description

🔬 White’s Basal Medium — one of the oldest defined plant tissue culture media, formulated by Philip White in 1943 for excised tomato root culture; still used for root organ culture and some monocot work.

💡 Historical and current use

White’s medium is very low in salts — lower than WPM — and was designed for the nutrient requirements of isolated roots rather than shoot-forming callus. It remains useful for root organ culture, secondary metabolite production in root cultures, and hairy root culture where MS salt levels are inhibitory.
