Description

Silver Nitrate (AgNO₃) — ethylene action inhibitor used to improve shoot quality in transformation and in vitro cultures. Silver ions (Ag⁺) block ethylene perception, suppressing senescence, leaf yellowing, and ethylene-induced inhibition of regeneration.

🔬 Grade TC / Analytical 🌡️ Storage Dark, sealed — photosensitive; cool storage

✨ How Ag⁺ blocks ethylene

Ag⁺ ions bind the copper co-factor in ethylene receptors (ETR1/ERS1), permanently blocking ethylene binding. No ethylene perception → no ethylene response: cultures maintain vigour, leaves stay green, senescence is delayed, and regeneration efficiency improves. Particularly important in transformation protocols where Agrobacterium co-cultivation triggers host ethylene stress responses.

✨ Working concentrations

Use Concentration Notes
Shoot regeneration improvement 1–10 mg/L Reduces leaf senescence
Transformation media (anti-ethylene) 2–5 mg/L Selection and co-cultivation phases
Cucumber / cucurbit shoot improvement 5–10 mg/L Classic application
Anti-ethylene in senescence studies 1–25 µM (0.17–4.3 mg/L) Dose-response first

⚠️ Silver nitrate is photosensitive — solutions turn black (Ag⁰) on exposure to light. Prepare and store in foil-wrapped containers. Also note: AgNO₃ stains skin and clothing permanently. Wear gloves at all times.
