💡 Why walnuts need DKW
Juglans and related Juglandaceae are notoriously difficult — they produce juglone (5-hydroxynaphthoquinone) which auto-inhibits culture on most media. DKW’s elevated calcium and specific micronutrient balance reduces juglone accumulation and supports the explant long enough for establishment. PVP (0.5–1 g/L) is typically added to DKW for walnuts.
