Description
🥥 Coconut Water Powder — dehydrated liquid endosperm of immature Cocos nucifera fruit. A complex natural supplement containing cytokinins, amino acids, vitamins, and sugars. The traditional “magic ingredient” of early orchid and embryo rescue culture.

🥥 Why coconut water?
Fresh coconut water contains: zeatin-type cytokinins (1–3 µg/mL), amino acids (glutamine, serine, proline), myo-inositol, B-vitamins, growth factors, and polyols. This cocktail supports embryo development and promotes cytokinin-like cell division in cultures where chemically defined media give poor results — especially orchid germination, embryo rescue, and recalcitrant species.
🧫 Working concentrations
| Use | Concentration | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Orchid seed germination | 2 g/L (reconstituted to ~100 mL/L equivalent) | Knudson C or ½ MS base |
| Embryo rescue medium | 50–150 mL/L equivalent | Ovule and immature embryo culture |
| Recalcitrant callus promotion | 50–100 mL/L equivalent | As supplement to MS |
| Banana establishment medium | 100 mL/L equivalent | Historical Musa protocol |
💡 Powder is more consistent lot-to-lot than fresh coconut water — fresh CW varies 3–10× in cytokinin content depending on maturity. Always autoclave or filter-sterilise after dissolving.
