Description
🫧 Hydrogen Peroxide 30% (H₂O₂) — oxidising sterilisation agent; used for explant surface sterilisation (especially hard seeds), equipment decontamination, and as an alternative to NaOCl for some surfaces.
| 🧪 CAS | 7722-84-1 | ⚖️ MW | 34.01 g/mol |
| 🔬 Grade | TC / Laboratory | 🌡️ Storage | 4 °C or cool, dark, ventilated; decompose-prone |
🫧 TC applications
| Use | Concentration | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Hard seed surface sterilisation | 1–3% H₂O₂ (dilute 1:10–1:30) | 10–30 min, then rinse |
| Orchid seed sterilisation | 1–3% H₂O₂ | Gentler than HgCl₂ |
| Laminar flow hood decontamination | 3% H₂O₂ spray | After NaOCl wipe |
| Glass vessel decontamination | Soak in 3–5% H₂O₂ | 30 min, then rinse |
⚠️ 30% H₂O₂ is highly corrosive — immediate skin/eye irritation on contact. Wear goggles and nitrile gloves. Dilute to working strength in a fume hood. Decomposes slowly even in storage — replace stock if it no longer fizzes on contact with organic material.
